UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - January 10, 2012

Lions Ken Stallings (#58), Brad Carson (#44), and Tommy White (#25) were all absent and the Tail Twister rolled the funds over to the club.

Attendance was 14 members plus 2 guest speakers.

Sandra Worlow, LCSW Director of the Beck PRIDE Center for America’s Wounded Veterans, was our speaker this week.  PRIDE stands for Personal Rehabilitation Individual Development and Education.  This is a service to any wounded combat veteran beginning with veterans of the Gulf War forward helping veterans and their families cope with returning to civilian life after combat.  Henry Laxton, a combat wounded veteran gave his testimony of how the Beck PRIDE helped him recuperate from the war.  Beck PRIDE for America’s Wounded Veterans is located in the School of Nursing on the ASU Campus.

Lion Bill Dickens advises we still have pecans to sell.  After returning 15 cases to our supplier, we have reduced the price to $6.00 per bag to clear out the balance which is about our cost.  Help Lion Bill to sell the remaining pecans.  They would make good Valentine gifts.

We have a flag day next Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day which we will fly the flags, weather permitting.

We will have a business meeting next Tuesday and will also have the winning Peace Poster artists and their families as guests of the club from the Jonesboro Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School.  At a later time, we will also have the students from Westside Middle School who participated in the Peace Poster contest.

SAVE THE DATE—Make plans now to experience Lionism, Fun, Leadership and Fellowship at the Arkansas Lions Mid Winter Forum at the College of the Ozarks, January 27-28, 2012.  Register before January 22 for $30.00.  Send registration fee to Arkansas Lions Mid Winter Forum, Lion Clayton Caldwell,  P O Box 288, Clarksville, AR 72830.  For more information contact Lion Philip Taylor at 479 754-2616 or 479 979-2260.
