Tuesday - January 13, 2004
Lion Joel Gambill (#17) won the Tail
Twister’s pot on the first drawing. Guests this week were Mr. Gary
Edwards, guest of Ken Helman, Skipper Smith & Lloyd Walker, guests of
Lion Mark Poe, and Mr. Greg Chance with KASU. Our attendance was 33
members plus 5 guests.
Skipper Smith and Lloyd Walker
presented a check in the amount of $435 to our
Dyeann’s House from the
Crusader’s Sunday School Class of the First United Methodist Church.
This gift in addition to the $815 contribution made earlier is half of
the Ruby Angel pledge of $2,500 which the class has made to
Dyeann’s House. Dyeann and
Mark were both members of the Crusaders Sunday School Class.
Remember, Monday is a flag day for
the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. This is also a good time to sell
new flag contracts for 2004. We charge the merchant or business $35 per
year and guarantee to display the flag 10 times or more per year.
Lion Secretary Brad Carson read the
minutes of the Board of Directors meeting held on January 9th
and Lion Treasurer Ed Larson presented the financial report which showed
a bank balance of $6,039.48 with $4,053.33 in the Activity Fund and
$1,986.15 in the Operating Fund.
The dates for the Arkansas Lions
State Convention have been set for May 7th & 8th
in North Little Rock. The dates for the International Convention are
July 5th - 9th in Detroit MI/Windsor, Ontario,
Canada. Let’s have good representation to both of these events.
Our program this week was brought by
ASU Head Baseball Coach Keith
Kissinger. Coach Kissinger talked about his 2004 ASU Indian Baseball
team and the general program for the 2004 Indians. He encouraged the
membership to purchase season tickets for the 30 home games for only
$35. Coach Kissinger also announced dinner with Tommy LaSorda at the
Grand Slam Celebration to be held at the St. Bernards Auditorium on
January 30th at 6:30 PM. Tickets are on sale for $500 for a
table of 8 or single tickets for $62.50. As of today, they have 35
tickets left to sell. This has been a great activity for the baseball
program sponsored by the Home Run Club.
