Tuesday - January 15, 2013

At our Tuesday weekly meeting today, Bill Dickens (# 38) won the pot, and
continued the tradition started last week by Jim Watkins by turning back
part of the pot contents [the non-folding stuff] back to the club.
Attendance was 19 members and two guests-Lion Dave Redmon's son David Jr.,
and Ms. J.P. Toledo of Habitat for Humanity.
1.    TV Auction Committee Chair Brad Baker said that the committee had met
the previous evening, and that it was reported there that this was the
best-ever auction, with roughly $11,500 cleared, $7000 of this which will go
towards the purchase of the SPOT vision screening device and associated
hardware/software, and $4000 headed for MidSouth Sight & Hearing.
2.    The Car Show Committee was to meet that evening (Tuesday evening,
January 15th), for a crucial meeting.  UPDATE:  Later in the day, the
meeting was postponed to the following week, due to adverse weather and the
invocation of the club's inclement weather policy.  (OK purists, we actually
do not have an inclement weather policy, but if we did, this was when it
would have been invoked, since the streets were really slick and nasty.)
3.       Pat Snodgrass noted that there will be Flag Day display next
Monday, January 21, Martin Luther King Day, and circulated a sign-up list
for members to take flag routes.
4.    The Board will meet this Thursday, January 17th at the Chef's In
restaurant - 6:30 am - for their January meeting.
January Program Chair Norm Dickson introduced our speaker, Vince Brown,
Marketing Director for Camfil Farr, the world's leading producer of air
control products, which has a 250-employee plant here in Jonesboro, making
high-quality industrial air filters.  Brown gave an update on what his
booming firm is doing, including having weekly international marketing
meetings via Skype, and then told about the activities of the NE Arkansas
chapter of the American Advertising Federation [AAF],  which does things
such as working with ASU students, helping local organizations such as Out
of the Dark and the Humane Society, and sponsoring quarterly "Lunch and
Learn" meetings with quality speakers to spread the word about the
advantages of advertising and provide a venue for networking.
Our Program lineup for the rest this month is as follows, thanks to Lion
Norman Dickson:
January 22nd :  Business Meeting
January 29th:  Rick Grissom will speak about his work for and with the
on-going activities of John 3:16 Ministries.
