UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - January 20, 2015

The Jan. 20, 2015 business meeting of the University Heights Lions Club was
held at Chef’s In restaurant, 105 Burke Street in Jonesboro, with 20 members
and five guests.  One guest was Dave Redmon’s son Dave, Jr. – the others are
noted below.

Shortly after Lion Tail Twister Bill Dickens had his sway and Lion Secretary
Charles Hartwig [#51] was announced as the winner of the pot drawing (you’d
have thought he won the Lottery) -- “gonna get some cold cuts……”, Lion
President Jim Watkins called the meeting to order.

Lion Donnie Kissinger led the song; Lion Jim Mashburn the pledge and Lion
Bryan Ulmer the prayer.

First order of business was to recognize the club’s 2014-2015 Lions
International Peace Poster Contest winner from the Nettleton Jr. High
School, 12-year old José Aguilar, whose poster had won his school’s and the
District 7-0 contests, and then had taken 4th place in the state-wide
competition.  His parents were in attendance, as was his art teacher Allie
Robbins, who gave a brief description of the art contest at NJHS.  After
José’s poster was unveiled for the audience, he explained what his intent
was as he was drawing the poster, and then got a check from the state-wide
MD-7 Peace Poster committee, in addition to his poster.  [See photo below.]

The regular monthly club business meeting followed, starting with draft
Board Minutes and the Financial report.

Announcements:

1.      Pecans and other nuts are now selling at the low price of 3 bags for
$20 – get some before they sell out.

2.      The new District 7-0 natural disaster response trailer had been
ordered yesterday by the District Governor and our own Pat Snodgrass, who is
the District ALERT chair.  It will be housed at least initially here in
Jonesboro.

3.       The Car Show Committee is up and running.  Chair Ron McCormick
reminded members to be sure and save time during the last weekend in March
to work at the fairgrounds, since LOTS of help is going to be needed for the
car show then.

President Jim adjourned the meeting at 7:30.
