The UH Lions met at the Chef's In Buffet at 6:30 in the morning with 17
members and one guest in attendance -- Helen Mashburn, who is not just an
ordinary "guest" (just ask Jim).
Lion Frank Wasko (Badge # 25) won the Tail Twisters' pot on the first
drawing. [He's been nominated as a Tail Twister for next year - hummm!]
President Robert Bahn presided over a brief announcement/update session,
which included:
1.    Car Show = THIS weekend, Friday - Sunday, March 28-30, at the new NEA
Exposition & Conference Center (aka District Fairgrounds) site --
fund-raiser of the year, so it is very important that all goes well.  A
sign-up sheet was circulated again for members to reserve their work
assignments.  86 car display slots had been paid for, and over a dozen more
are expected in the next few days.  We may get some rain on the Friday
set-up day, but the Sat & Sun. public days have excellent weather
predicted-which is important for the carnival.  Pass the word!
2.    The final slate of officer nominees for the coming Lion year was
distributed; the election will be in two or three weeks. (Let's have a clean
campaign, folks - no cash hidden in pies, etc.)
3.    A call for members planning to attend the annual state Convention in
Harrison on April 25-26 resulted in six volunteers, whose $35 registration
fees will be paid for by the club. (More could sign up late, but then their
registration will cost $40.) The current six club representatives will be
Bryan Ulmer, Pat Snodgrass, Bill Levins, Donnie Kissinger, Clinton
Kissinger, and Charles Hartwig.   Bryan, Bill, and Charles were picked to be
the three voting delegates.
March Program Committee chair Charles Hartwig introduced speaker Aaron Smith
of the City of Jonesboro's Grants and Community Development department, the
Manager of the city's CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) project.  The
CDBG has a lot to do with housing, both helping new residences get built and
getting rid of abandoned/eyesore ones, and even funds some other projects in
the city, such as City Youth Ministries.
April Program Committee chair Jim Watkins has scheduled the
following programs for the next month:
4/01/14            Alyssa Goodin, SVOSH representative, Southern College of
Optometry, Memphis
4/08/14            Dr. Don Bowyer, Dean of Fine Arts at ASU
4/15/14            monthly Business Meeting
4/22/14            Brock Cline, Green Business Committee, Jonesboro Regional
Chamber of Commerce
4/29/14            Cindy Sellers Roach, Heifer International Community
Engagement Manager, Little Rock
Adjournment was at 7:30 a.m.
