The UH Lions Club's April Fool's meeting was called to order by President
Robert Bahn at 6:50 a.m. in the Chef's In at 105 Burke Ave. Tail Twister
Brad Baker did his thing and Lion Bill Levins, badge #39, won the pot, as
usual. Baker also led the song (America) as well as the pledge. The prayer
was by Lion Ron Erwin.
There were 17 members , one guest, Helen Mashburn, guest of Lion Jim
Mashburn, and the two speakers present for the meeting.
In regular business, a report was made by Lion Jim Watkins, car show
chairman, on the weekend's Jonesboro Auto Show, which everyone agreed was a
success. This year's show was held at the Northeast Arkansas District
Fairgrounds and Exposition Center in Jonesboro. Previous shows, 24 of them,
have been held at the ASU Convocation Center.  A final report on the show
will be made later.
- Mid-South Leadership program will be the weekend after next at Mid-South
Lions in Memphis. We have three members going - there are still some
openings for others.
- Election of club officers will be on April 15th.
- Flag bills were handed out by Lion Pat Snodgrass, to be delivered in
Speakers for the meeting were Alyssa Goodin and Alex Jackson, first year
students at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis and both members of
the student Lions Club at the college. (The largest Lions club in
Tennessee.) They talked about the annual "mission" trips SVOSH students
participate in each year to help people in other nations with vision
problems.  10-12 small groups of students and faculty members are scheduled
to head out in May [next month]; 101 students went on trips last year,
mostly to Latin American countries with active Lions clubs, which serve as
Their visit is part of fund raising efforts of SVOSH (Student Volunteers in
Optometric Service to Humanity) members to help pay for costs of the annual
trips.  Sight Chair Bill Levins presented them with a $500 club check - and
gave them some collected glasses to take back to Memphis. [See the attached
photo, taken after Bill had given them their check].
