Lion Eric Grant (#14) was absent and Lion Vern Drake (#13) won the Tail Twister’s pot.
Attendance was 17 members plus 3 guests. Bernis Posey was a guest of Lion Tommy White, Phillip Carper and John Thurston from the Land Commissioner Office were guests of the club.
This is the weekend for the Mid South Lions Sight & Hearing Leadership Conference. If you plan to attend the Saturday meeting only, meet at the Hamilton Eye Institute at 8:00 AM located at 830 Madison Ave.
At the trophy and award presentations for our Car Show our Lion Vern Drake was presented a nice trophy for his continued service on the Car Show Committee since 1989. Lion Vern joined our club in October 1986, sponsored by Lion Dale McKinney. He served as 3rd, 2nd & 1st Vice President and as President in years 1996 and 2008. He also served as Club Director 2000 – 2002. Lion Vern has 21 years 100% attendance, and was the Lion of the Year 1992-1993. He was Lion of the Quarter in 2006, 2008, & 2010. Lion Vern was made a Melvin Jones Fellow in 1997 and 2009. He has received the Edward Dalstrum Award and the Presidents Award. Lion Vern Drake is a Great Lion and an asset to our club.
The Car Show tee shirts we have left over are being sold for $2.00 each, 3 for $5.00 or 4 for $6.00, while they last.

The State Convention will be May 18 – 19 in Conway at Central Baptist College. We should have several members of our club attending. We are entitled to three delegates and there are several constitutional amendments to be voted on Saturday of the Convention. New officers are urged to attend. Advise Lion Treasurer Ron if you plan to attend either or both days of the meetings. Our club will pay the registration fees of each member attending.
White Cane Day will be on Thursday and Friday, May 10 – 11 at the Wal-Mart Store on Highland Drive.
We have two flag days in May: May 19 for Armed Forces Day and May 28 for Memorial Day.
Our program this week was given by our State of Arkansas Commissioner of State Lands, John Thurston. Mr. Thurston is the first Republican to hold the office of Land Commissioner since the office was established in 1874. He told of the duties and operations of the Land Commission office at the State Capitol in Little Rock.
