UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - April 15, 2014

The weekly UH Lions Club's meeting began at 6:30 a.m. in the Chef's In at105 Burke Ave., with 17 members  and two guests present.  Guests were Helen Mashburn, guest of Lion Jim Mashburn; and Brian Staron [a professional magician who has often performed at Lions gatherings], guest of Lion Brad Baker.  Unlike the previous week, when it took seven [7] tries for Jim Mashburn (# 2) to win the Tailtwister's pot, this time Jim again won, but on the first try. [Let's see if he can make three in a row next week.]

Announcements/Reports/Actions:

- Car Show Chair Jim Watkins (now back in town from a well-deserved
vacation) reported that overall the 25th annual car show at the end of last
month was a big success -- quite possibly the best car show fund-raiser yet.
A full financial report should be ready by next week.  Many thanks go to the
City of Jonesboro for its promotional seed money, and to the folks from John
3:16 for their manpower help. The largest problem was getting enough club
member workers, since many more were needed at the fairgrounds, compared to
the ASU Convocation Center in previous years.

--White Cane Day[s].  Pat Snodgrass will be scheduling some White Cane Days
in May, to help deal with the exploding numbers of persons seeking
eyeglasses.

- The election of club officers for the coming Lions year was held. The new
officers are listed below.

April Business Meeting:

- The Minutes of the Board meeting on 4-10-2014 were read by Secretary
Charles Hartwig.

--The monthly Financial Report was given by Treasurer Ron Erwin.  He also
reported that as directed by the Board, he had prepared project checks to be
distributed by members attending the annual Lions State Convention in
Harrison will be on Saturday, April 26th:  Blind Camp $1500; Lions UAMS Eye
Bank $750; Leader Dog $750; World Sight for the Blind (WSB) $5000 [for a
room]; Mid-South Sight  Hearing $4150 [we had already sent them $850
previously].

--Additional delegates to the state convention in Harrison will be Dave
Redmon and Brad Baker.

Future programs:

04/22/14    Brock Cline, Green Business Committee, Jonesboro Regional Chamber of
Commerce.

04/29/14    Cindy Sellers Roach, Heifer International Area Community
Engagement
