Tuesday - May 2, 2005
Lions Dr. Joe George (47) and Ken
Helman (61) were absent and Lion Ed Larson (46) won the Tail
Twister’s pot.
Guests this week were Mr.
Phillip Jones, a guest of Lion Bobby Wood and Mr. K Rex Mayfield,
a guest of Lion Bill Levins, with a check and membership
application in hand. Congratulations Lion Bill for sponsoring our
new member. Lion Bill is working on his Advancement Key by
sponsoring 6 members into Lionism. Last week he was awarded the
Membership Key for sponsoring 2 new members & this week he gave
that key to his sponsoring Lion, Lion Bill Hester.
We should have as a membership
goal this next year of having every member be a Key Member. There
are 15 members of our club who have not sponsored a single member.
Remember the key to a successful Lions Club is members and
membership into a Lions Club is by invitation only. Our attendance
this week was 20 members plus 3 guests.
White Cane Days are next week,
May 12 and 13. If you have not signed up to work White Cane please
do so next Tuesday. Lion Gary Glisson needs your help and the club
needs funds to buy glasses.
This week there will be eight
or nine club members attending the State Convention in North
Little Rock. Our club will be presenting checks to the state
supported projects in the amount of $10,250 to the following
recipients:
Lions World Services for the
Blind $4,500
Mid South Lions Sight and
Hearing Services $4,500
Lions UAMS Eye Bank $ 500
Leader Dog for the Blind $ 750
With this plus the local sight
work and the Blind Camp, our club is helping the blind and hearing
impaired in excess of $22,000 this year. This is what we are all
about. Tell the Lions story to a prospective member. He or she may
just want to be a part of something so wonderful!!!!
All old & new board members
should attend the important Board of Directors meeting May, 12 @
6:30 @ Couch’s. Open to all members.
Dr. Marty Shull was our
speaker this week, speaking for the Downtown Jonesboro
Association. The Downtown Jonesboro Association has been in
existence since 1999 and was reorganized last year with a five
year plan to revitalize Downtown Jonesboro. Their slogan is "have
you been downtown lately?" You can join the Downtown Jonesboro
Association for as little as $25.00. Send your contribution for
membership to Downtown Jonesboro Association, 407 Union St.,
Jonesboro, AR 72401.
Invite a guest to next week’s
exciting program given by Mr. Paul Copeland, Director of Community
& Economic Development, with MPO Transit System.
