UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - May 3, 2011

As usual the Tail Twister Lion Tony Bari (#10) won the pot.

Attendance was 16 members plus our guest speaker.

Our own Lion President Brad Baker was featured in the May issue of the LION magazine on page 47 about how to apply for an LCIF Grant. Lion Brad has helped to author and administer more that $1.1 million in grants, including matching funds. Great job Lion Brad.

Next weekend, May 13 & 14, are the dates of our State Convention. We are expecting upwards to 200 attendees to the convention. The Holiday Inn will be the convention headquarters hotel and all convention activities except the golf tournament will be there. The golf tournament will be at the Links Golf Course. Lion Vern Drake is in charge of the golf tournament. There will be a hospitality room at the Holiday Inn beginning Friday at 5:00 to meet and greet the visiting Lions. Registration will be Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Let’s have a good turn out for the convention since it is in our town this year.

Flag Days – Saturday, May 21 and Monday May 30. Sign up next Tuesday for the May 21 date.

White Cane Days are Thursday & Friday, June 9 & 10, at Kroger from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. Sign up sheet

Board of Directors meeting will be at Ann’s Restaurant at 6:30 AM, Thursday May 12. Both new and present officers and directors should attend.

Our annual awards and induction of new officers banquet will be June 28.

Our program this week was given by Kevin Hoke, Mission Coordinator for Nettleton Baptist Church. Kevin is a well known farmer for 27 years in Craighead County. He has made 18 trips to Africa as a missionary to people mainly in Uganda and Ruanda. He gave a video presentation of the living conditions and information on his trips to these countries to bring Christianity to those people. He has his work planned in three categories – Island Ministry, Sports Ministry and Village Ministry.

Scheduled Programs:
May 10 – Steve Ewart – Jonesboro JETS bus system
May 17 – Business meeting
May 24 – Becky McDaniel Ewart – St. Bernards Senior Care program
May 31 – Nathan Davis – NE Arkansas Liason/Field Representative Jonesboro Office of US Senator John Boozman
