guests.
This week is White Cane Days
with the club working Thursday and Friday at the Highland Drive
WalMart Store. As of today, there were 4 vacancies on the work
schedule. If you can work a second shift or have not signed up
to work, please call Lion Gary Glisson at 974-7603 or 897-1899.
Also, this Saturday, May 15th
is Armed Forces Day and we will fly the flags, weather
permitting. If you want to work a flag route and have not signed
up, please call Lion Mark Poe at 935-1057 or 935-3693 and
volunteer your services.
Acting Secretary Lion Eric
Grant read the minutes of the May 6th Board of
Directors meeting. Lion Treasurer Ed Larson submitted his
financial report which stated a bank balance of $12,359.78 with
$12,819.78 in the Activity Fund and a deficit balance of $459.95
in the Operating Fund. It was noticed that the line item for
meals cost was $8,605.93 and our dues receipts were only
$7,375.00. If your dues are in arrears, please have your dues
account current before July 1st.
District Governor Elect Lion
Pat Snodgrass gave a brief report on the state convention last
weekend. He stated that our club was well represented with 6
members attending. There were 300 or more Lions attending the
convention in North Little Rock. Next year the state convention
will be in Jonesboro and our 3 Jonesboro clubs will be the host
clubs for the convention.
Mr. Randy Ferguson, District
Conservationist for the Jonesboro field office of Natural
Resources Conservation Service, gave the club an interesting
talk and video presentation about water conservation and soil
erosion.
Next Tuesday we will have
with us a home town boy that many of us know that has recently
returned from fighting the war in Iraq. Col. Mike Mooday, son of
former Lion Gene Mooday and nephew of Lion Leon Lee, will be our
speaker and will be talking about the war in Iraq. This would be
a good time to invite a guest or prospective member and also
those MIA’s that have been missing meetings.
The program for May 25 will
be Scott Hancock and Bob Schuchardt talking about the Craighead
County Community Foundation.
Next Tuesday is election.
Don’t forget to vote.
