UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - May 15, 2012

Lion Norman Dickson (#11) was the winner of the Tail Twister’s pot on the first drawing.  Attendance was 20 members with no guests.

This was our monthly business meeting.  Lion Secretary Charles read the minutes of the May 10 Board of Directors meeting and Lion Treasurer Ron gave the financial report.  As of April 30, our bank balance was $23,384.85 with $734.23 in the Operating Fund and $22,650.62 in the Activity Fund.  All members who owe dues for May or before need to get their accounts current as our Operating Fund is needing funds to pay our meals.

Our White Cane Days last week netted the club $1,468.06.  This White Cane Day was designated as a special project for Mid South Sight & Hearing.  $420.58 will go into our Activity Fund and the balance of $1,047.48 plus our annual commitment of $5,000 will go to Mid South.  These funds will be included in the parade of checks at the state convention in addition of $1,500 to the Blind Camp for Children, Lions Eye Bank & Laboratory and Leader Dog for the Blind - $750.00 each and $5,000 to Lions World Services for the Blind.

Lion Bill Levins is working on our new club directory.  He has gotten 20 of our members picture with 14 more to take.  He will also need biographies of each member.

Past District Governor Norine Westerbeck will be our speaker at our Awards Banquet on June 19 at Western Sizzlin Restaurant at 6:00 PM.  She will talk about National Camps or Blind Children.  Lion Norine will also install our incoming officers.  Make plans to attend with your Lioness or other guest.

Programs scheduled:

May 22 – Dr. Scott Darwin, Emeritus professor of German, ASU.  “The campaign to save the V. C. Kays house on the ASU campus.”

May 29 – Karl Hollander, Executive Director, Foundation of the Arts.  “The Arts in Jonesboro”.  (also possibly coming with Kristi Pulliam, the FOA’s Community Development Director)

We have some interesting programs lined up.  Bring a guest next Tuesday.
