Lion Robert Bahn (#007) won the Tail Twister’s pot on the first drawing.  There were 18 club members in attendance plus our speaker Scott Darwin and Barbara Brinkley with the campaign to save the V.C. Kays house on the ASU Jonesboro campus.

Thanks to all members who worked flag routes last Saturday.  We will have another flag day next Monday, May 28, for Memorial Day.  We may have to have some members working more than 1 route as some members will be out of town.  Call Lion Pat Snodgrass if you have not signed up for a route to work.

We had 6 members attending the state convention in Conway last weekend.  The delegates advised that the University Heights Club out ranked every other club in the amounts given to the various state projects during the “parade of checks”.

Our program this week was given by Dr. Scott Darwin in his campaign to save the V.C. Kays house on the ASU campus.  In 1936, Dr. Kays and his wife built, with their own money, the two-story Tudor home, a two-story structure with a full basement.  The ASU administration and the Board of Trustees have decided to demolish the Kays House along with other handsome bungalows to make room for four sorority houses for 80 women at a cost of 8.2 million dollars.  The ASU Board of Trustees has granted a reprieve for the Kays House until June 1, 2013.  Pledges are being accepted toward the restoration of the Kays House.  Contact Tom Moore, the Executive Assistant to the Chancellor, for more information.

Program Chairman Lion Tony Bari has the following programs lined up for the month of June:

June   5 – Mayor Harold Perrin – City of Jonesboro

June 12 – Mike Martin – Jonesboro Police Chaplain

June 19 – Awards and Installation Banquet at Western Sizzlin, 6:30 PM

            June 26 – Business meeting

Congratulations to Lion Tony Bari for the birth of a granddaughter.  Her name is Laura Bari.  We will have another barrel racer soon.

Our program next Tuesday, May 29, will be Karl Hollander, Executive Director, Foundation of the Arts.  Thanks to Lion Charles Hartwig for the excellent programs this month.

Have a happy Memorial Day and see you next Tuesday.
