UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - May 28, 2013

At our Tuesday morning meeting this week, Louie Ulmer's number 15 was
initially called, and when son Bryan Ulmer jumped up to try and claim his
absent dad's prize, he was rebuffed. Then Bryan's number 56 was picked, and
he won the Tail Twisters' pot after all!

Attendance was 16 members and two guests-Jerry Casteel, a "regular" guest of
Lion Bill Levins, and PDG Norine Westerbeck.

Announcements:

1. Past District Governor Norine Westerbeck made some brief comments
about the Blind Camps, and presented the club with an appreciation
certificate in recognition of our contribution of $1500 to the Blind Camps
during the State Convention earlier this month in Camden.

2. A thanks letter had been received from Mid-South Sight and Hearing CEO
Brad Baker, in recognition of our total contributions this Lions year of
$5000. When President Curt Hodges noted this, Brad, who was sitting in the
back, jumped up and reminded the club that the annual Membership Meeting of
Mid-South was coming up next month, specifically on June 14-15, at the
Hamilton Eye Institute in Memphis, and that everyone was invited to attend.
Brad also noted that Sir Paul McCartney had donated 20 free tickets to his
Memphis concert this past Sunday to Mid-South to distribute, which was a
nice recognition of MidSouth.

3. Secretary Charles Hartwig passed out a form asking members who think
that they might have qualified for an 100% attendance award at the annual
awards banquet next month to indicate this [make-ups can take care of missed
meetings, you will recall], AND if those qualifying would like a 2012-2013
pin to acknowledge this.

4. Ball cap order. Secretary Charles Hartwig reported that the orders
for members wishing to order new caps (at $13 each) with the club logo - to
take advantage of the special offer for free logos if ordered by the end of
the month - needed three more orders, AND that any new orders would
determine the color, since the previous orders ended in a 3-way tie for the
cap color. The order form was sent around again, and at the end of the
meeting, after three more orders were received, and several members realized
that the "yellow mesh" cap was really yellow and black, the majority opted
for blue, which will be the color ordered.

Program:

Lion Jim Watkins, subbing for May program chair Norm Dickson,
introduced speaker J.P. Toledo, who spoke about Habitat for Humanity and
its efforts in Jonesboro, which had begin in 1999.

Jonesboro Habitat house number 15 will hopefully be completed in July.

June Programs:

June program chair Tony Bari reports that the following programs have
been scheduled for June:

June 4th Absolute Care---Janna Wineland

June 11th Health South--- Christen Wilkes

June 18th Awards/Installation banquet, at the new Fat City restaurant
[evening meeting]

June 25th Business meeting - [Tony also proposes that the new committees
have a break out session]
