Tuesday - June 4, 2013

At our Tuesday morning meeting this week, Dave Redmon won the Tail Twisters'
pot on the first drawing.
Attendance was 17 members and two guests- MD-7 District I Governor Ken
Swanson, and Darren Niedelmeyer from Wisconsin, a guest of Lion Robert Bahn,
who is here in Jonesboro to train in pole vaulting for the next summer
Olympics at the Earl Bell facility, and is also working on a graduate degree
at Arkansas State University.
1.    How many Lions have seen a new club member on the very day in which he
is welcomed into the club honored by an award from his previous Lions Club?
How many Lions have seen this award to the new [transfer] member presented
with his award by his former District Governor IN PERSON?  Although probably
no one has seen such a thing, it actually happened at our June 4th meeting
this week, when new transfer member Thomas Benedict was awarded a Dalstrom
Award from his former club, the Russellville [Arkansas] Lions Club, by
District 7-I  Governor Ken Swanson, in recognition of Thomas' efforts with
the SPOT vision screening device with other members of the Russellville club
in many areas in western and North-West Arkansas to help spot vision
problems in young children.  We are extremely fortunate to have superstar
Lion Thomas pick us as his new club after moving to Jonesboro, and look
forward to great things in the future with him, especially since we just got
our own Jonesboro SPOT device last month.   Thomas also gave some excellent
statements about the importance of being a Lion, after being asked by
President Curt Hodges to make some comments after being welcomed into the
membership of our club.
2.    Members were reminded and asked to sign up on an attendance form that
our annual Awards/Installation Banquet will be on Tuesday evening, 6:30 pm,
on June 18th at the new Fat City restaurant on E. Johnson Ave.  [No morning
meeting that day.]
3.     Secretary Charles Hartwig again circulated a form asking members who
think that they might have qualified for an 100% attendance award at the
annual awards banquet on June 18th to indicate this [make-ups can take care
of missed meetings, you will recall], AND if those qualifying would like a
2012-2013 pin to acknowledge this.
4.    A Flag Day route sign-up form was circulated by Flag Chair Pat
Snodgrass, since our next flag day project is on Friday, June 14, the
official national Flag Day.
Lion Charles Hartwig, subbing for June program chair Tony Bari,
introduced speaker Jana Wineland,  who spoke about Absolute Care Management
and its programs in a 26-county area, which provides home health assistance for their daily needs to the elderly
(including Alzheimer's patients) in their homes in NE Arkansas.  She is the
Community Relations Manager for Craighead, Lawrence, and Sharp counties,
based in the Absolute Care corporate office here in Jonesboro.

been scheduled for the rest of June:
