Program - ASU's Moot Court Competition Team
Faculty Advisor, Dr. Hans Hacker (Assist. Prof of Political Science) explained that the program, which is only 3 years old, has already won a national championship in 2009 and a 5th place finish in the national tourney in the spring of 2010 as well as victories at other tournaments. He explained that in the competitions, each participant gets to argue three times (20 minutes each time), taking the position of the petitioner and then the respondent. They are scored by a panel consisting of law students, practicing attorneys, and sitting judges. One of the team's top members, Lilia Pacheco, a Junior Political Science major, presented an impressive demonstration in which she argued a case as if it were before a state supreme court. The ASU team can accommodate up to 12 students at this time.
