UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

President Jim Watkins opened the meeting on time and closed it at 7:26 p.m. - a couple minutes early.

Tail twister was Lion Bill Dickens. Forgot who earned the pot, if that's important. (#39 Lion Bill Levins) Lion Tony Bari was song leader; Lion Ron McCormick led the pledge and Lion Larry Hinck led the prayer.

There were 21 present for the meeting, including guest Larry Chance, retired from E.C. Barton. He as guest of Bill Levins and Pat Snodgrass.

Guest speaker Donna Lamb Boyer, executive director of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for the Second Judicial District. Casa serves as advocates for children in the district involved in the foster care system.

Boyer said more volunteers are needed to work with the children and in particular male volunteers who can serve as role models. To become a volunteer one must be between 21 and 100 years old; able to pass a background check; have a heart for children and undergo some training, approximately 30-hours.

Lion Bryan Ulmer said his mother had completed radiation therapy for cancer and is to begin chemotherapy.

Announcements included:
- Mid-South Lions Auction, Aug. 8th in Memphis.

- District 7-0 Cabinet Meeting Saturday in Heber Springs.

- District 7-0 Convention will be Sunday, Sept. 27 in Heber Springs. Registration deadline is Sept. 10.
