Lion Charles Reeves (41) was absent and Lion PDG Pat Snodgrass (31) won the Tail Twister’s pot on the second drawing.

Guests this week were Lion Norine Westerbeck and Jane Limbert representing the National Camps for Blind Children and Mr. Randy Dent a guest of Lion Tommy White who has submitted his application for membership.

Other guests were The Joe Verser family - Joe, Melanie and Susannah. Susannah last Saturday had a birthday party with all her gifts of toys and stuffed animals being contributed to Dyeann’s House.

Last Saturday Lions Pat Snodgrass, Jerry Garrett and Bill Levins removed 152 flags from their staffs and delivered the flags to the Magic Touch Laundry for cleaning. Magic Touch has agreed to clean our flags each year in trade for 3 of their locations to have our flag service at no charge. The Flag Committee will be purchasing more flags and staffs before our next flag day. When working your flag route please note brackets that are no longer being used and advise our flag bracket team Lion David Redmon and Marcy Herrell to remove brackets and also to repair any brackets. We will soon have a flag drive for new customers. Our next flag day is Monday September 5 for Labor Day.

Lion Gary Glisson reports our next White Cane Day is set for September 22 - 23 at the Highland Drive Wal- Mart Store.

Lion Ken Helman advises we will again sponsor the Peace Poster Contest for 6th & 7th grade students in all local schools. The contest must be completed by October 31.

Our speaker this week was Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann. Sheriff McCann has been our Sheriff since January 1999. He talked about the general operations of the sheriff’s office and the County Detention Center. The Sheriff’s office has 66 employees including 27 deputies with an annual budget of more than $5,000,000.

Next week is our regular monthly business meeting, with another new member to install. Remember our goal of 1 new member per month. Invite a guest next Tuesday.

Lion Tommy White has the following programs scheduled:

August 23 Paul Holmes - Northeast Arkansas Business Today

August 30 Jerry Biebesheimer - Director of the Fowler Center, ASU
