Lion Charles Reeves (41) was absent and Lion PDG Pat
Snodgrass (31) won the Tail Twister’s pot on the
second drawing.
Guests this week
were Lion Norine Westerbeck and Jane Limbert
representing the National Camps for Blind Children and
Mr. Randy Dent a guest of Lion Tommy White who has
submitted his application for membership.
Other guests were
The Joe Verser family - Joe, Melanie and Susannah.
Susannah last Saturday had a birthday party with all
her gifts of toys and stuffed animals being
contributed to Dyeann’s House.
Last Saturday
Lions Pat Snodgrass, Jerry Garrett and Bill Levins
removed 152 flags from their staffs and delivered the
flags to the Magic Touch Laundry for cleaning. Magic
Touch has agreed to clean our flags each year in trade
for 3 of their locations to have our flag service at
no charge. The Flag Committee will be purchasing more
flags and staffs before our next flag day. When
working your flag route please note brackets that are
no longer being used and advise our flag bracket team
Lion David Redmon and Marcy Herrell to remove brackets
and also to repair any brackets. We will soon have a
flag drive for new customers. Our next flag day is
Monday September 5 for Labor Day.
Lion Gary Glisson
reports our next White Cane Day is set for September
22 - 23 at the Highland Drive Wal- Mart Store.
Lion Ken Helman
advises we will again sponsor the Peace Poster Contest
for 6th & 7th grade students in
all local schools. The contest must be completed by
October 31.
Our speaker this
week was Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann. Sheriff
McCann has been our Sheriff since January 1999. He
talked about the general operations of the sheriff’s
office and the County Detention Center. The Sheriff’s
office has 66 employees including 27 deputies with an
annual budget of more than $5,000,000.
Next week is our
regular monthly business meeting, with another new
member to install. Remember our goal of 1 new member
per month. Invite a guest next Tuesday.
