Lion Bill Dickens (#38) won
the Tail Twister’s pot on the first drawing.
We had no visitors but, it
was good to have Lion Jim McAlister back from up north. Our
attendance was 27 members.
Acting Secretary Lion
Charles Hartwig read the minutes of the August 5th
Board of Directors meeting which had much discussion about
members in arrears with their dues and attendance. Lion
Treasurer Vern Drake gave his July 31 financial statement which
showed a bank balance of $7,311.69 with $5,942.83 in the
Activity Fund and $1,368.86 in the Operating Fund. The
collection of members dues in July amounted to only $480.00.
This is approximately $600.00 short of the amount needed to meet
our budget item for dues.
There has been some
discussion about sponsoring a gun and knife show. The West
Memphis Lions Club will be having their first gun and knife show
on September 25 & 26 at the Southland Greyhound Park. It may be
to our advantage to attend their show and observe how they put
it on.
If you want to advertise
your business see Lions Jerry Garrett and Bill Levins. Our
program this week was given by Lions Bill and Jerry representing
their business, The Lamar Outdoor Advertising Company. Lamar
Outdoor Advertising operates in 43 states and has been in
business for 104 years. They have 700 or more signs in the
Jonesboro area. Lion Jerry has been in the outdoor advertising
business since 1984 and Lion Bill has been selling outdoor
advertising since 1988. This is the same business that our
Stallings family started back in the 1960's.
