At our Tuesday morning meeting this week Bryan Ulmer (# 56) won the Tail
Twister's pot on the third drawing, after Lions Louie Ulmer [#15] and Tommy
White [#25] turned up missing [i.e., absent].
Attendance was 16 members and [in addition to the speaker] one visitor,
Jerry Casteel, a guest of Bill Levins.
1.    The club's Board will meet this Thursday, 8-15-2013, at 6:30 am in the
Chef's In restaurant.
2.     Brad Baker reported that in addition to himself and his family, four
club members had attended on last Saturday, August 10th the Mid-South Sight
& Hearing's most important fund-raiser of the year in Memphis.  (Charles
Hartwig reported that the absent Jim Watkins and his wife were serious
partakers of silent and live auctions, who needed lots of transportation to
get their multiple purchases back to Jonesboro.)
3.    Pat Snodgrass noted that since the District 7-0 annual convention will
be here in Jonesboro on Friday-Saturday, October 4-5, there will be some
calls for volunteers to help host the event.
4.     Sight Committee Chair Bill Levins responded to information that the
Nettleton School District wants us to do vision screening on 400 of their
pupils with the new SPOT device by noting that the committee had set a
priority on screening for 4-7 year olds, and they would be working on the
details of how to do this.  (He and Secretary Charles Hartwig would be doing
an interview with public access cable TV channel 24 this Thursday, which
will in part discuss this vision screening process.)
5.    Membership Committee member Brad Baker passed out a Member
Questionnaire to all club members in attendance, asking that all members
complete the form and return it at the next meeting, to help in planning for
the future of the club.
Substituting for July Program Committee Chair Jim Watkins, who was unable to
attend, Charles Hartwig introduced Beth Horton the area Health Initiatives
Representative of the American Cancer Society, who did NOT ask for money,
but rather asked for time and involvement in the several ACS programs here
in Jonesboro, all designed to help cancer patients and survivors cope.
