UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - August 16, 2011

Lion PDG Pat Snodgrass (#31) won the Tail Twister’s pot on the first drawing.

Attendance was 19 members plus 1 guest.  Past member Lion Gene Boucher from the Annandale, Virginia Lions Club was a guest of Lion Jim Mashburn.  Lion President Larry Hinck presented Lion Gene with one of our club friendship banners to take back to his club.  Lion Gene was a member of our club from 1964 to 1969.  He was our bulletin editor.

This was our regular business meeting.  Lion Secretary Charles Hartwig read the minutes of the August 11 board meeting and Lion Treasurer Ron Erwin gave the financial report.  As of July 31, our bank balance was $7,805.73 with $3,892.65 in the Operating Fund and $3,913.08 in the Activity Fund.  We have had to place a moratorium on club spending until we can raise more money in the Activity Fund and also collect dues from the membership for the Operating Fund.

Lion Pat Snodgrass reported that the WalMart Store on Parker Road will allow us to collect White Cane money and it is understood that the Nettleton Club has no objection to our working this store.  We will have our first White Cane Day at WalMart on September 8 & 9.

A discussion about the noise in our meetings that is disruptive to our speakers was noted.  Some of our members are going to investigate the possibility of installing a 21’x8’ curtain to block the dining room and kitchen noise.

The Flag Project chairman Lion Pat advises that out of 150 flag subscribers we have only collected from 25 locations.  The $4,000 that is in arrears is needed to buy glasses.  Let’s make contact with our subscribers and get our Flag Project current.

Next flag day is September 5 for Labor Day.

Our speaker next week will be Jerry Reece, General Manager of the NEA District Fair.

August 30 program will be Norm Judd, Manager of St. Bernards Health & Wellness Institute.

Lion Curt Hodges will be our program chairman for the month of September.

Invite a guest.  We have some good programs lined up.
