UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - August 24, 2010

Our #1 Lion, Dale McKinney, was absent and Lion Jim Watkins (#54) won the Tail Twister’s pot on the second drawing. Lion Robert Bahn was the designated Tail Twister.

Our attendance was 15 members plus 4 guests. Jimmy Yancey, with Suddenlink, was a guest of Lion David Hamilton and Jacob Moll was a guest of Lion Tommy White.

Jacob Moll presented a donation to the club of $42.00 which was proceeds from donations received last Saturday at the grand opening of Hilltop Eyecare & Optical.

Congratulations go to Lion Robert Bahn upon receiving the 25 year Membership Chevron Award from Lions International. However, we need to advise Lions International that Lion Robert should be receiving a 30 Year Membership Award as Lion Robert joined out Lions Club in February 1978 sponsored by PDG Ralph Benefield. He is also a Key Member, having sponsored 2 or more Lions into our club.

Our District 7-0 is needing a candidate for Vice District Governor position. Anyone interested in serving our district as Vice District Governor and later as District Governor, please advise Lions Brad or Charles.

Our program this week was brought by Margaret Holloway and John Strobe with Ritter Communications. Ms. Holloway is Vice President of Public Relations and Mr. Strobe is Vice President of External Affairs. They talked about the history of the E. Ritter Company which was founded in 1906 as a private telephone company in Marked Tree, AR. Ritter Communications offers local and long distance telephone service, high speed internet web, e-mail and general business phone services. The Ritter Company has just broken ground for a new office building located at the corner of Browns Lane and Windover Drive. They will employ 100 or more employees at their new location.

Scheduled programs:
August 30 Presto-lite Wire Co., Mr. Lanny Million, Operations Manager
September 7 Thunder Over the Rock Air Show reps from LRAFB
September 14 Kimberly Shiplet, Special Olympics
September 21 Business Meeting
September 29 Lion Judy Moose, District Governor

Lion Curt Hodges will be our Program Chairman for the month of September

We have some very good programs lined up and we need to “M&M”. More Members. Invite a prospective member next Tuesday.
