UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - September 6, 2011

Lion Secretary Charles Hartwig (#51) won the Tail Twister’s pot on the first drawing.

Our attendance was 19 members plus 2 guests.  Vice District Governor Betty Payne, who is also the president of the Trumann Lions Club, was a guest of the club.

Dr. Dennis White, Deputy District Director of the Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame was our speaker this week.  The Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame was organized in June of 2010.  The Hall of Fame will have its first inductees on Veterans Day, November 11, 2011.  To date they have 30 applications.  At present there are 275,000 veterans living in the state of Arkansas.  There have been 25 veterans to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor from Arkansas since the Civil War (no Confederates).  The Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame will be placed in some area of the State Capitol Building.

Next week our program will be Miss Craighead County Rice – Miss Lexie McEntire.  She was also first runner up for the Miss Arkansas Rice pageant.  She will serve us her specialty rice dish.

This is our White Cane week.  Teams need to be at the Wal Mart store on Parker Road.  Call Lion Eric Grant if you do not have an assigned work station.  We will work Thursday and Friday.

The Board of Directors will meet Thursday, September 15, at 6:30AM, at the Chef’s Inn Restaurant on Burke Ave.

Business meeting will be September 20th at Gina’s Place.

Flag monies are still needing to be collected.  Those businesses that have not paid by September 30, we need to remove their bracket and get new customers.

See you Tuesday.  Bring a guest.
