The UH Lions learned a lot about World Services for the Blind, a Little Rock-based agency that provides services to blind and partially-sighted people that are provided by no-one else on earth.
Tony Woodell, COO of World Services, which started in 1947, pointed out that more than 13,000 people have been served by the agency since it started.
Woodell was introduced by Lion Ken Stallings, September program chairman.
Besides the speaker, there were three other guests of the club: Dr. Susah Hanrahan of ASU, guest of Charles Hartwig; Paul Holmes, guest of Robert Bahn and Jerry Casteel, guest of Bill Levins.
After President Jim Watkins called the meeting to order at 6:48 a.m. Tail Twister Bill Dickens held forth and allowed Lion Larry Hinck to read a lengthy joke-story (what was it about?)
Lion Jim Mashburn led the song, Lion Donnie Kissinger the prayer and Lion Ron Erwin the pledge (maybe not in that exact order).
Reminders - Flag Routes Thursday for 9-11 Patriotsí Day (60 percent chance of rain); Board meeting Thursday morning (still a chance of rain) and Car Show Chairman Ron McCormick announced dates of the 2014 show, March 27-29 at the Craighead County Fairgrounds, the weekend before Easter.
There were 24 Lions, three guests and the speaker present for the meeting.
