UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - September 23, 2014

President Jim Watkins presided at the meeting, which featured 19 Lions in
attendance, plus our speaker -- no guests, sadly.

Despite being absent, Curt Hodges still did not have his number (8) called
during the infamous Tail Twister pot event.  Cade Wilson (#23) did have his
number called, but he was also absent.  Ron McCormick was then thrilled to
hear his number 48 announced, and happily collected the pot contents.

Announcements:

- TV Auction Committee to meet next Monday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 pm in the
Forest Home church Children's Building on Windover, across from Ritter. Brad
Baker will preside.

- The District 7-0 Convention will be this Saturday, Sept. 27 in Heber
Springs.  Six UH Lions will be representing us:  Pat Snodgrass, Jim and
Helen Mashburn, Bill Levins, Donnie Kissinger, and Brad Baker.  The club
voted to send a $750 check with the delegates to present to Mid-South Sight
& Hearing at the convention, in response to an urgent plea from them.  This
will be an "advance" of our budget amount earmarked for Mid-South this Lions
year.

--Car Show Committee Chair Ron McCormick [basking in his new-found wealth],
announced that the dates of March 27-29, 2015 have been confirmed for the
show, which will take place in the Fairgrounds buildings.

Program:

September Program Chair Ken Stallings introduced the speaker,  Dr. Wendy
Hymes, Director of the Fowler Center at ASU, talked about the exciting
programs at the Fowler Center this year, which include a number of "kid
friendly" ones.  She also showed an impressive video showing what many of
the scheduled performers and groups can do, and urged members to take
advantage of all the offerings, which also include many [free] faculty and
student programs as well.

--Charles Hartwig -- for the vacationing (in Canada, rumor had it) Curt
Hodges.
