Lion Bob Draper (#45) wasn’t paying attention and Tail Twister Tony Bari (#10) took the pot.
Our attendance was good with 20 members plus 3 guests present. Mr. Donnie Kissinger was a guest of Lion Jim Watkins with a membership application in hand.
The Club’s condolences go out to the family of our departed Lion Dale McKinney. Lion Dale was our last Charter Member, having joined the club in July 1963. He was a Key Member, a Melvin Jones Fellow and served as President in 1970-71. Lion Dale had 40 years of 100% attendance before he had to go on membership at large status. He was also a Life Member. Lion Dale will be missed from our den.
Our guest speakers were PCC David Moose and his Lioness District Governor Judy Moose from West Memphis. Lion David talked to us about LCIF and the great humanitarian work the Lions perform around the world. Just in the past year, LCIF has made over $70,000,000 in grants to help people in need. Our club contributes $2,000 each year to LCIF.
This was our district governor’s official visit to our club. District Governor Moose asked for good attendance from our club to the upcoming District Convention on October 15-16. She also talked about attending the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which was also attended by our President Lion Brad. This year our Lions Club International President Sid L. Scruggs has set our motto of “We Serve” by making our communities better places to live and being a “beacon of hope”. District Governor Moose this year has a goal for each club to be a “Beacon of Hope” through attaining the following goals:
1. Increase club membership by 10%
2. Have a successful project
3. Have 10% of membership attending the District and State Conventions
4. Contribute to LCIF.
These goals should be easily attained by our club.
