UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - October 1, 2013

There were 16 Lions and two guests present for the Oct. 1 meeting of the University Heights Lions Club, which was held at Chef's In Restaurant in Jonesboro.

President Robert Bahn called the meeting to order at 6:50 a.m. Song leader for the meeting was (????), The Pledge was led by Jim Watkins and Lion Brad Baker led the prayer.

Tail Twister pot drawing was won by Charles Hartwig, Badge No. 51.

Guests were the speaker, Lindsey Hawkins, of the Big Brothers-Big Sisters organization in Northeast Arkansas. With her was Grant Cable, also with Big Brothers-Big Sisters. The organization matches voluntary "big siblings" with kids ages 6 to 18 who have parents missing in their homes.

Hawkins told the Lions that thus far, 27 adults have been placed with kids so far in the local program. The organization is located at 108 E. Huntington Ave.

Lion Vernon Drake, who was unable to attend the50th Anniversary Banquet, was presented the "President's Award," the third Lions service award. The award was to have been presented during the anniversary gathering.

Members were reminded of the District 7-0 Convention to be held Saturday at St. Bernards Auditorium from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. A "hospitality" meet and greet will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct 5 at Hilton Garden Inn in Jonesboro.

Lions were also reminded of the upcoming TV Auction, to be on Dec. 7. Sponsors and items for auction are needed.
