Tuesday - October 7, 2014
President Jim Watkins presided at the meeting, which featured 18 Lions in
attendance plus our speaker, and two guests of Lion Dave Redmon:  his son
Dave Redmon, Jr. and his girlfriend AJ, and their 6-day old son, Dave A.
Redmon III, aka Trey.
Three "regular" members missed out on the lucrative Tail Twisters pot by
being absent: Curt Hodges (#8), Vern Drake (#13), and Ken Stallings (#58),
before Dave Redmon heard his number (#34) called, and happily collected the
pot contents -- no doubt to help get more diapers for the baby, who happily
slept through the entire (and sometimes noisy) meeting.
- TV Auction Committee Chair Brad Baker had posters, letters, and receipt
forms to help members collect items for the December 13th TV auction, and
urged members to use them.
--Flag Day.  The club decided to have a make-up flag day next Monday,
October 13th, Columbus Day, to make up for earlier rained-out flag days.

--PR Chair Charles Hartwig reported that three schools are taking part in
the 2014-2015 Lions International Peace Poster Contest sponsored by our club
this year:  Westside Middle School, Nettleton Jr. High School, and the
International Studies Magnet School.  The poster submission deadline for
these schools is Monday, November 3rd - club members will be asked to take
part in awards ceremonies shortly thereafter at each school.
--President Jim reported that he had received a letter from ASU announcing
that the winner of our $1000 ASU Scholarship this academic year is Senior
Quinton Marks, who also sent us a thanks letter.  [We hope to have Mr. Marks
come to a club meeting in the future to see him in person.]
--As per the notice sent out earlier last week by President Jim about the
serious health problems of our usual waitress at the Chef's In,  a
collection to help her out was conducted during the meeting, which amounted
to $235, plus tips.
October Program Chair Tony Bari introduced the speaker, Harold Johnson,
President of the Wings of Honor Museum at the Walnut Ridge Airfield.  Mr.
Johnson, who has a long history of involvement in aviation, including
serving as a commercial airlines pilot [and getting hijacked on a flight
which went all over North America, ending up in Cuba], told about the how
the Walnut Ridge Army Air Base was established in 1942 to train pilots
[nearly 5,000] during WW II, and how the Museum was finally established in
1999.  A visit to the museum is highly recommended!  [See
