The regular meeting of the University Heights Lions Club was called to order
at 6:50 a.m. by President Robert Bahn with 17 members and one guest,
perennial guest Jerry Casteel, in attendance. The meeting was at our usual
venue, the Chef's In Buffet, in downtown Jonesboro [105 Burke Ave.]
Tail Twister Lion Bill Dickens did the honors and Lion Ron Erwin, Badge #
24, won the pot -- again. I still wonder what happened to Number 8.
{Probably will show up next Tuesday as I will be out of town for that
meeting. If it does, present it to the treasury in my absence, please.}
Lion Tommy White led the song; Lion Bill Levins the Pledge and Lion Ken
Stallings the prayer.
In business, Lion Bill Levins was endorsed by a vote of the club as "Second
Vice District Governor" for next year, on a motion made by Lion Charles
Hartwig and seconded by Lion Curt Hodges. Everyone seemed to be relieved
that Levins agreed to serve, as the "bite-ems" were completely unanimous.
Senior Lion Jim Mashburn had been slated to receive an International
President's Certificate of Appreciation during the 50th Anniversary Banquet
on Sept. 28th from Past International President Jimmy Ross, but due to his
auto accident had been unable to attend.  Since he is still recovering, Lion
Norm Dickson is to take the award and a pin from current International
President Barry Palmer to him.
Everyone was reminded of a Board meeting this Thursday at 6:30 am, and
Columbus Day as a flag day on Monday, ,Oct. 14. Curious!
Guest speaker Brian Rega, director of senior services for St. Bernards
Medical Center, told about a new care facility for those with Alzeimer's
Disease and other maladies that affect (our) memories. A new St. Bernards
Villa is being built on West Parker Road near Strawfloor.
