UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - October 11, 2011

Lion Mark Poe (#21) was absent and Lion Secretary Charles Hartwig (#31) won the Tail Twister’s pot.

Attendance was 16 members plus our speaker.

The District 7-0 Convention went great and our club had the largest delegation with 10 members attending.  Our Lions International speaker Past International Director Dana Biggs, from Nebraska and California, was a great keynote speaker telling stories of what other  Lions Clubs are doing around the world.

The next opportunity for Arkansas Lions to get together will be at the Arkansas Lions Mid-Winter Forum at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR on January 27 – 28.  Registration fee of $30.00 covers the cost of the seminars, breaks and meal (Saturday Lunch).  Coffee and cookies will be available.  Send registration fees to Arkansas Lions Mid-Winter Forum, Lion Clayton Caldwell, P.O. Box 288, Clarksville, AR 72830.  Special hotel rates will be available at the Best Western Motor Inn (479 754-7900) and Quality Inn (479 754-7900).

Thanks to those members who worked flag routes Monday for Columbus Day.  Our next flag day will be November 11 for Veterans Day.

We need to get ready for our Lions TV Auction on December 10.  Start gathering up auction items and bring them to Lion Bill Dickens’ business, Cache Beauty Supply.  Also sign up corporate sponsors for the auction.  This is a joint sponsorship activity with the other two Lions Clubs in Jonesboro.

Lion Charles Hartwig is cranking up the Peace Poster Contest for Middle School art students.  The posters need to be completed by November 2.  Lion Charles does a great job on the project and for his efforts he was presented with an International President’s Certificate of Appreciation from International President Tam by PID Dana Biggs.

Our speaker this week was Chris Tilly, District Sales Manager for Rice Tec.  Rice Tec organized in 1990.  It now has plants in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, California, Costa Rica and other operations world wide.  Rice Tec has 315 employees.  It produces the highest yield of rice seed available.

Next Tuesday will be our monthly business meeting.

October 25, our speaker will be Coach Boyer talking about our 2011-12 ASU Red Wolves women’s basketball team.
