UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - October 26, 2010

Lion David Hamilton (#12) won the Tail Twister’s pot on the first drawing.

 

Attendance was 19 members plus 3 guests.  Mr. Bob Baker was a guest of Lion Bill Levins and Mr. Bob Parham was a guest of the club.

 

Remember the Miracle Rodeo this Saturday.  If you can assist on Friday evening and/or Saturday, volunteers are needed to work.

 

Mr. Jim Shehorn, with the Scenic Hills Association, talked about working with the city government to maintain a clean and prosperous community.  The Association’s objective is to have “Safe and Clean Neighborhoods”.  Initiatives of the Scenic Hills Association are as follows:

1)      Work with the city to get condemnation proceedings started at 1600 W Nettleton

2)      Revision to Jonesboro Code Sec. 66:84, Inoperative Vehicles

3)      Proposal to Enforce existing Jonesboro Code Sec. 105:254, Nuisance Properties

4)      Utilize CDBG to place sidewalks in Scenic Hills and a perimeter fence at Annie Camp

5)      Miscellaneous: street lights, drainage ditches, pot holes, barking dogs, speeding and loud cars/music.

 

We will fly the flags on Election Day, November 2.  We will also fly the flags on November 11 for Veterans Day and November 13 to honor our soldiers in the 875th Engineering Battalion returning from Afghanistan.

 

Lion Charles Hartwig will be our program chairman for the month of November.  Programs scheduled for November are as follows:

    Nov    2  Nancy Matthews, Craighead County Geneology Society, “What is Genealogy?”

    Nov    9  Dr. Will McLean, ASU Political Science Department “Post Election Analysis: What does it mean?”

    Nov  16  Business meeting

    Nov  23  (for National Diabetes Month) Dr. Mary Hartwig,  AHEC, “Diabetes Update and why it can cause you to go blind”.

    Nov  30  Drs. Megan and Jacob Moll, Hilltop Eyecare Center, and a student SVOSH volunteer from the Southern College of Optometry, “SVOSH in action overseas with your used                    eyeglasses.

 

Board of Directors meeting will be November 11, 6:30 AM Ann’s Restaurant.

 

We need Auction items now.  Make your solicitations for sponsors and auction items.  The date of our Lions TV Auction is December 11 – only 6 weeks away.
