UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - November 4, 2014

The University Heights Lions Club heard about Heifer International, the Arkansas-based nonprofit humanitarian organization working to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth by providing livestock and environmentally-sound agricultural training to families in more than 40 countries including the US.

Heifer International “Community Engagement Manager” Cindy Sellers Roach told Lions about the organization. She has been with Heifer International since 1997 and lives in Vilonia. She holds a master of arts in political science from ASU and has taught at ASU, UCA and UALR.

Lion President Jim Watkins called Tuesday’s meeting to order at  6:32 a.m. After a few antics and a joke or two, Tail Twister Lion Bill Dickens drew badge number 9, Donnie Kissinger for the pot. Kissinger was the song leader, Lion Curt Hodges the pledge and  Lion Jim Mashburn led the prayer.

Lion Charles Hartwig announced that Peace Poster award ceremonies may be held Thursday at various local schools. Other announcements: White Cane, Thursday and Friday at Wal-mart on Highland Drive.

At the TV Auction meeting Monday night it was noted that some 60 items, all small ones, have been received but many more and larger ones are needed for the upcoming  Dec. 6 event.
