UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

The regular meeting of the University Heights Lions Club was called to order by President Jim Watkins at 6:30 a.m. with 22 members and a guest speaker, D-7-O Governor Angela Smith of Heber Springs  present.
DG Smith provided updates on goings-on in the district and said a D-7-O ALERT disaster services trailer will be purchased using proceeds from a grant from Lions Clubs International of $8,500.

 
Smith also said one of her goals as DG will be to assist Lions Clubs that are struggling to remain viable.
 
Announcements:
  • White Cane Day garnered more than $1,000 to be used in Lions services;
  • Flag Day (Veterans Day) was cancelled because of imminent (over 50 percent chance) rain;
  • Peace Poster awards at International Studies Magnate School (Jonesboro) at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The Peace Poster awards at Westside Middle School at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
  • Items needed for the annual TV Auction (take them to Cache Beauty Supply).
Lion Jim Watkins, Badge 54, won the pot drawing; Song Leader was Lion Jim Mashburn, Pledge led by Lion Helen Mashburn and Prayer by Lion Larry Hinck.

 
Members were also reminded of the monthly Board Meeting to be held Thursday morning at 6:30 at Chef’s In.
