UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - November 16, 2010

Lion Eric Grant (#14) won the Tail Twister’s pot on the first drawing.  Our attendance was 16 with no guests.

This was our regular monthly business meeting with the reading of the minutes of the November 11 Board of Directors meeting and the financial report which showed a bank balance of $6,753.76 with $2,969.71 in the Operating Fund and $3,784.05 in the Activity Fund.  Our Club Secretary Lion Charles Hartwig and Club Treasurer Lion Ron Erwin both do an excellent job in keeping our club up to date on activities and finances.

Our club is presently involved in two projects – Our TV Auction and the Pecan sales.  If you have not done so, get your supply of pecans from Lion Bill Dickens and let’s wrap up the Pecan Sales before Christmas.  The Pecans sell for $8.00 per bag or $15.00 for two bags.

The TV Auction is right upon us.  We need more items and sponsors now to have a successful auction.  Remember also to take orders for the Boston Butts and this year we are also offering racks of ribs for $25.00.  Get your orders in for the butts and ribs by December 9th.  Two Auction Committee meetings are planned.  Monday, November 22, we will have an Auction Committee  meeting at the Forest Home Church of the Nazarene at 6:30 PM and on Tuesday, December 7th (Pearl Harbor Day) we will have an Auction Committee meeting at Lion Bill Dickens store at 6:30 PM.  Bring all auction items to Lion Bill Dickens store located at 6103 Hwy 1 S, Cache Beauty Supply.

We had two members attending the Charter Celebration of the new Osceola Lions Club.  Lions Bill Levins and Jim Mashburn attended the charter night meeting.  PID Scott Rennels was the guest speaker and installed the new officers of the club.  The new club was chartered with 22 members.  Our club presented the new club with a gift of $50.00.

Immediate Past International President Eberhard J. Wirfs presented our club with a President’s Retention Campaign award with a patch to be placed on our banner.  This award is for membership retention during the year 2009-10.  Let’s get some more M & M’s this year.  Do the Recruiting Wheel and turn in the names of prospective members next Tuesday.

Lion Bob Draper needs our prayers.  A couple weeks ago Lion Bob had surgery of a knee replacement.  That went well but, later he suffered a reaction to a pain medicine which almost was fatal.  He is at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital.

Scheduled programs:

Nov. 23 – (for National Diabetes Month) Dr. Mary Hartwig, UAMA/AHEC, “Diabetes: The Key to Preventing Complications”

Nov. 30 – Drs. Megan and Jacob Moll, Hilltop Eyecare Center, and a student SVOSH volunteer from the Southern College of Optometry.  “SVOSH in action overseas with your used eyeglasses.”

Date for our Christmas party will be December 14.  Time and place pending.
