Lion Ken Stallings (#58) was absent and Lion Ron Erwin (#24) was the winner of the Tail Twister’s pot.  We had no guests and our attendance was 20 members present.

This was our regular business meeting with the reading of the minutes of the November 13th Board of Directors meeting and the club financial report.  Our October 31 bank balance was $9,674.98 with $5,429.64 in the Activity Fund and $4,245.34 in the Operating Fund.

Monday, November 17, we had the Awards Ceremony for the 2008-2009 Lions International Peace Poster Contest winners for the participants at Nettleton Intermediate Center and Fox Meadow Intermediate Center.  The winners at Nettleton were Ali Tucker, 1st place, Nicholas Booth, 2nd place, and Kortney Goff, 3rd place.  The winners at Fox Meadow were Matias Grady, 1st place and Lara Rochester, 2nd place.  Cash awards were given to each of the winners with the 1st place receiving $50.00, 2nd place receiving $25.00 and 3rd place receiving $15.00.  This is the 8th year in a row that the University Heights Club has sponsored the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.  The first place winners will be entered into district, state and international levels of the contest.  Thanks to Lion Charles Hartwig for organizing the Peace Poster Contest each year.

Every member needs to be selling pecans and getting items for our TV Auction.  Lion Bill Dickens says the pecan sales are going great and we need to get the money in soon in order to pay our vendor for the pecans by December 10.  The TV Auction will be Saturday, December 13.  We will need workers from 9:00 to 4:30.  We will have a sign-up sheet next Tuesday.  The next Auction Committee meeting will be December 8 at the Forest Home Church of the Nazarene.  Items and sponsorships are needed now.

Lion Tony Bari has the Lazzari Restaurant reserved for Tuesday, December 9, at 6:30 PM for our Christmas party.  Bring some canned goods for Helping Hands Pantry and also a fun gift to exchange.  There will not be a breakfast meeting that morning.

The Valley View Leo Club will receive a rebate from Barnes and Noble on sales made during the month of December commencing December 9.

Our speaker next week will be Gloria Gibson, Dean of ASU’s College of Humanities & Social Sciences on, “What’s Moving and Shaking in the Social Sciences and Humanities.”
