UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS LIONS CLUB

Tuesday - November 23, 2010

Lion Dave Redmon won the Tail Twister’s pot on the first drawing.  Attendance was 17 members plus 2 guests.

Jerry Casteel was a guest of Lion Bill Levins.

As of Monday night, we had 74 items for our auction.  We need twice this amount to be on the air until at least 2:00 PM.  We’ve got about 2 weeks to sign up more sponsors and items.  Also, remember we are selling racks of ribs and Boston Butts for $25.00 each.  Orders for the ribs and butts need to be in by December 9th.  The next meeting for the Auction Committee will be at Cache Beauty Supply, 6:30 PM, December 7th.

To help make our Car Show a success we have received a grant from the City of Jonesboro in the amount of $9,500.

In accordance with November being named National Lion Diabetes Awareness Month, our Lioness Dr. Mary Hartwig, nurse educator for the Northeast Health Education Center of Arkansas for Medical Sciences presented a most interesting program concerning diabetes.  Her subject was titled “The Keys to Preventing Complications of Diabetes.”

Next week, November 30, our program will be Drs. Megan and Jacob Moll, Hilltop Eyecare Center, and a student SVOSH Volunteer from the Southern College of Optometry.  “SVOSH in Action Overseas with your eyeglasses.”  Bring your used eyeglasses next week for donations.

Board of Directors meeting will be Thursday, December 9 at 6:30 AM at Ann’s Restaurant.

The Christmas Party will be Tuesday, December 14, at Ann’s Restaurant, 6:30PM.  Meal cost will be $9.00 per person.  There will not be a morning breakfast on that day.

Lion Ron Irwin will be program chairman for the month of December and Lion Curt Hodges will be program chairman for the month of January.

Pecan sales are going good.  Let’s try to wrap up the Pecan Sale Project by Christmas.

Continue to remember Lion Bob Draper in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

The Lions International Peace Poster Contest for schools in Jonesboro was concluded Tuesday at Westside Middle School.  Student Ryan Foreman received the first place award and $50.00 from our club.  Lion Charles Hartwig does a great job in organizing the Peace Poster contest each year.
