With 15 members and 10 guests present, the University Heights Lions Club was
treated to a mini-concert by members of the ASU Concert Choir Tuesday
morning. The concert was a preview of the Madrigal Feaste on Friday and
Saturday evenings, Dec. 6 and 7 in the Fowler Center on the campus. The cost
is $40 per person, for a special type of dinner concert.
The nine choir members were introduced by November program chairman Charles
Hartwig. The ASU choir included graduate assistant Kane Bradley of
Russellville; Matt Penny of Jonesboro; Chris Dyson of Killeen, Texas; Kate
Rickman of Jonesboro; Sarah Woodson of Harrisburg; Maegan McDaniel of
Manila; Kale McDaniel of Jonesboro; Denise Adkins of Cabot, and Mary Rougeau
The Lions also presented the singers with some cash to assist them on a tour
of Spain next spring.
The 10th guest was Frank Wasco, guest of Ron McCormick and potential member
of the club.
Lion President Robert Bahn called the club to order, which was never quite
achieved, at 6:45 a.m. The song was led by Tommy White and made much more
palatable given the addition of young, trained voices of the ASU choir. The
pledge was led by Lion Tommy White, pledge by Lion Ron McCormick and the
prayer by Lion Ron Erwin. Lion Pat Snodgrass (# 31) won the pot.
- Lion Bryan Ulmer announced that $590 had been raised by his Wounded
Warrior walk/run 8K event which he completed in Tennessee in two hours, 36
- TV auction will be on Saturday, Dec. 7. Items for bidding are coming in
smartly and a work schedule will be posted next week. Pork loins will be
prepared and sold for $25 each, pre-ordered and pre-paid.
- Car show committee is to meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3 at Suddenlink
Media advertising on Stone Street.
- The club voted unanimously to move the car show to the Northeast Arkansas
District Fairgrounds for its 2014 event, March 28-30.
- The club Christmas Party will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Fat
City restaurant. Lion Tony Bari indicates that attendees will pay for what
they order, plus a 20% gratuity added on. No morning meeting that day.
